Oakland Unified School District is filled with overcrowded classrooms, unsafe caseloads for support staff, and underpaid educators. Meanwhile OUSD is spending far more than comparable school districts on administration and consultants. They’ve got their priorities backwards. Oakland students deserve better. Teachers are on strike for smaller class sizes, more support for students, a living wage for teachers, and an end to school closings. And we can make a HUGE difference by showing that the community has their back.*
SHOW UP:
- Join the picket line! Sign up here or just head straight to a site based on this map (top priority sites in orange and other priority sites in red). Pickets go from 6:30am-10:30am and 2:30pm-4pm M-F until the strike ends. You don’t need to bring anything with you – though noisemakers and snacks are helpful (and rain ponchos or umbrellas if it’s raining) – just show up! Your energy will be hugely appreciated.
- There are citywide actions every day! Follow OEA on Facebook for the most up-to-date info.
- Help with food distribution during the strike.
- If you are part of an organization that wants to support, your org can sign up to partner with a school on picketing or financial support.
DONATE:
- Help feed students and teachers during the strike.
- Help support struggling teachers who won’t be paid while on strike.
- The forecast for this week is united and determined with a high chance of rain. Help teachers buy umbrellas for the picket line! Rain or shine, we walk the line.
RESOURCES:
- Here’s a strike guide for parents.
- Here’s a website with lots of strike details.
- Here’s Bread for Ed website that shows where food will be available during the strike!
