Seniors & People with Disabilities Urge Senator Harris: Save Our Healthcare, Stop Tom Price

MEDIA ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, January 23rd, 2017

San Francisco, CA – On Tuesday January 24th, seniors, people with disabilities, healthcare workers and families threatened by federal health care cuts will call on Senator Kamala Harris to lead the fight to save healthcare for millions of Americans and reject Tom Price, Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services, whose Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled that same day.

“As a person with a disability, Medicaid provides the support I need to live with dignity. The threats to Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act jeopardize my life and the lives of so many who need care the most.” said Nikki Brown Booker, who has relied on homecare attendants for over 20 years to be able to attend college and have a career.

Healthcare advocates will deliver a giant thank you card urging Senator Harris to vote against Tom Price’s confirmation, fight Medicaid cuts and block granting and oppose any privatization of Medicare. Senior and Disability Action Board President Betty Traynor said, “Senator Harris is a rising leader in the Democratic Party, and the future of our country depends on strong leaders willing to fight for healthcare for all and defend the rights of everyday citizens every step of the way.”

Tuesday’s action will be the first of a series of national #ResistTrumpTuesdays actions called for by MoveOn.org and People’s Action and organized locally by Senior & Disability Action, Hand in Hand, SEIU 1021, Jobs with Justice SF and Bay Rising.
